Every business in Virginia wants to cut costs, save time, and increase benefits for their employees. One of the most popular strategies for helping small and mid-sized businesses achieve these goals is to outsource their HR needs to PEOs or Professional Employer Organizations. These firms have sprung up all over Virginia in the past few decades, providing quality HR services for reasonable prices. What’s not to love?
Selecting the best PEO for your Virginia LLC is easier said than done, however. There are a lot of these firms out there, and, while some PEOs go the extra mile and provide far more than a basic service, others don’t quite make the grade. That’s where I come into play – I’ve sifted through the PEOs in Virginia, seeking out the very best of the best for your consideration.
Let’s take a look at the cream of the crop of PEO providers in Virginia!
1. Coadvantage PEO
In Virginia, the standards of business are renowned as being very high, which is why business owners in this great state deserve a PEO that does it all. Without a shadow of a doubt, Coadvantage PEO is right up there at the top of my list, due to its wide-reaching suite of business services, currently assisting companies of all types achieve their business goals, saving time and money and seeking out the best benefits deals while doing so.
Coadvantage PEO has been in operation for several decades, and, throughout this time, has picked up clientele in all 50 states. Due to being under the umbrella of the Morgan Stanley group, they’ve got considerable clout when negotiating the very best insurance policies for your employees, and despite being a nationwide operation, they never fail to customize their services for clients based in Virginia. Coadvantage PEO is especially good when it comes to providing onboarding and teambuilding services, as it they have the recruitment tools at its disposal which assist with finding the very best people for your roles, ensuring that your top staff members retain their positions while increasing their skill set. All in all, it’s a truly impressive PEO provider and one which is well worth getting a quote from.
2. Vensure PEO
For smaller and medium-sized businesses, Vensure PEO is a superb solutions provider with a long list of happy clients. It’s been running in the state of Virginia since 2004, and, throughout their time in the region, it has proven over and over again just how good it is at scoring the very best insurance deals, handling a full range of payroll, tax, and recruitment services, and providing tip-top customer service solutions for businesses just like yours.
Vensure will quickly put your mind at ease should you be concerned or cautious about working with a PEO for the first time. As mentioned, its customer services are second to none, and you can be assured that no matter your issue or query, you’ll be able to speak to a seasoned professional when you need them the most. That being said, my research has shown that Vensure might not be the best solution for businesses undergoing a period of growth, and nor is it the best option for larger businesses or those in specialized industries. Indeed, many businesses which have grown from medium to large-sized have migrated from Vensure to another provider, but, regardless of this, it has what it takes to save you time and money, and provide excellent HR services across the board.
3. Amplify PEO
There are plenty of PEO providers in Virginia, and the industry has seen something of a boom in recent years. However, Amplify PEO is the third and final PEO provider to make this list, and it’s not without good reason. It has proven its worth across the past decade by dealing with medium-sized businesses in a range of industries, and it would make a great option for Virginia companies seeking help with HR workloads, paperwork, and recruitment.
One of the main reasons why Amplify made it on this list is due to its excellent customer service track record. It’s a point of pride for this company that it does not use automated or robotic customer service assistants, and will always ensure that your queries are dealt with by a professional. While Amplify PEO is able to help with the essential suite of PEO solutions – namely HR, payroll, tax filing, and insurance issues – they aren’t recommended as highly for businesses with more niche requirements or those within specialized industries. However, if you’re on the lookout for PEO solutions that cover the basics with great expertise, I’d highly advise getting a quote from this company.
Just missing out on a top 3 position is Justworks, a PEO company that has made big waves in Virginia across the past ten years. Their rise in popularity has come about as a result of their excellent HR services – Justworks will ease your paperwork burden, take care of your payroll, and stay on top of all your recruitment, insurance, and compliance needs, too.
However, the one thing which makes Justworks really stand out from the crowd is their unprecedented level of transparency. Many PEO companies in Virginia will hit you with all kinds of hidden costs or opaque percentage-based fee structures once you’ve signed up. Justworks have a brilliantly transparent way of charging their clients, and it makes a huge difference to Virginia businesses dipping their toes into the world of PEOs for the first time. The reason they didn’t make the top 3? That comes down to the fact that, as far as PEO firms go, Justworks is still very much a newcomer on the scene. With a few more years under their belt, they’re sure to be a much more serious contender for the top spots.
5. Infiniti HR
As you’ve surely noticed, the state of Virginia boasts a number of different PEO firms. Infiniti HR is one PEO that has managed to consistently cut through the noise, providing top-level HR support for Virginia businesses seeking assistance. One of their biggest selling points is the fact that Infiniti HR specializes in recruitment and onboarding, and in a state with such a rich and varied talent pool as Virginia, this is something that local businesses really value.
If I had to identify a drawback to Infiniti HR, it would have to once again be their age. Ten years really isn’t a long time in the PEO industry, and being such a young service provider, Infiniti HR simply hasn’t had the time to really establish themselves on the scene. Nonetheless, they’re well worth looking into and getting a quote from, and they’ll surely do a great job of saving your Virginia business time and money.
Thanks to over three decades in the PEO industry, TriNet has managed to carve out a powerful reputation in Virginia, serving businesses of all shapes and sizes and assisting with the full array of HR-related tasks. However, I’ve noticed that when it comes to innovation and forward-thinking PEO approaches, TriNet really doesn’t have anything particularly impressive to say.
This might not be such a huge deal in other states, but Virginia businesses deserve a PEO firm with their finger on the button, and which isn’t satisfied with letting its reputation do the hard work of pulling in new clients. Virginia is a highly dynamic state with very specific needs and compliance requirements, and as such, your business would do well to seek out a PEO which goes the extra mile for your needs.
Oasis has experienced a great deal of success and forward motion in their twenty years of experience, and it’s resulted in the firm being acquired by PayChex, with whom they’ll be able to expand their operations further. Established and successful – what’s not to like? Well, after a bit of investigation, I managed to find a considerable downside that I reckon makes them a less attractive option for Virginia businesses like yours.
The main issue I have with Oasis is that once you sign up for their Virginia PEO services, you’ll be locked into a 12-month contract. This seems really out of step with contemporary business norms, and most Virginia businesses will prefer a more flexible month-to-month contract arrangement. If you know for sure you need a long-term PEO partner, they’re surely a decent option. However, if you have even the slightest doubts regarding where you’ll be in a year’s time, it’s probably better to opt for another.
8. ADP Totalsource
ADP Totalsource is an internationally-recognized PEO firm, with branches in over 140 different countries worldwide. That in itself is highly impressive and suggests a PEO at the peak of their powers.
While ADP Totalsource is undoubtedly a highly capable and slick operation, I have to question how suitable a multinational PEO is when it comes to serving the unique needs and requirements of a Virginia business. The chances are, a smaller or medium-sized Virginia business would be pretty low on the list of priorities for a firm like ADP Totalsource, and it’s unlikely you’d get the tailored services your business deserves.
When people ask me why they should work with a PEO firm, one of the first things I always mention is the bargaining power PEOs have when it comes to scoring the best healthcare options for your employees. Therein lies the big drawback with Insperity. This PEO firm looks great on the surface – they’ve even got a very attractive flexible cancellation policy, which is a really attractive prospect to those using a PEO for the first time. However, they only work alongside one healthcare insurance provider, immediately putting them at the bottom of my list of recommendations.
Without multiple options for healthcare insurance benefits for your employees, you’re going to lose a lot of your competitive edge in the employment market by going with this PEO. As such, I can’t recommend Insperity for Virginia businesses, as your staff deserves the best insurance plans available.
