Pros

Northwest Registered Agent’s goal is to serve small businesses. 

They offer all the services you need and they're a national registered agent, so you can register for multiple states from the same dash, which is handy. 

Customer service is their stand-out feature. 

All of their customer service agents have the experience and expertise to answer your burning business questions. 

And they charge only $125 per year. 

Cons

Their only downside is their customer service, ironically. 

Northwest’s agents ask tons of questions, and they wait to understand your problem before they give you answers or suggestions. 

It’s a pain whenever the whole office is held up waiting for an answer from one customer service call. 

Overall

Northwest Registered Agent is the best Virginia registered agent service. They have great services, the best customer service, and they have the second-lowest price.

2. Harbor Compliance – 7.92/10 (Best Budget Registered Agent)

Harbor Compliance is in second place because they provide all of the services you need at the lowest fee. 

Pros

Harbor Compliance has a lot of the same services that Northwest Registered Agent does,but their best feature is their price. They charge only $99 per year, making them the cheapest Virginia registered agent service on the market. 

Cons

Their one drawback is that they aren’t great at anything they do. 

They don’t have premium services, they could have a better system, and they don’t offer business support. 

Overall

Harbor Compliance is a good option for people on a budget. They offer basic services for $99 per year.

3. LegalZoom Review – 6.59/10 (Best Premium Registered Agent)

LegalZoom provides standard services and premium services (up to $1 million in identity theft protection and covering any state fees). 

But they’ve got a $299 per year price tag. 

Registered agent services aren’t their specialty, so they aren’t the best, either.

4. ZenBusiness

ZenBusiness doesn't provide registered agent service by itself. They’re a formation company that provides a free year of their registered agent service with their formation packages.

Their registered agent service covers the basics. Their LLC formation service is only $49, but it costs $119 to renew their registered agent service.

5. IncFile Review

IncFile supplies minimal services. You get the necessary business address and they’ll be your point of contact, but that’s it.

They give you 1 year of free agent services with their formation service, but it costs $119 per year to renew it.

6. Rocket Lawyer Review

RocketLawyer, like LegalZoom, doesn’t specialize in registered agent services. 

You’ll get the necessities,but they charge $149 per year for the basics with inadequate customer service.

SunDoc provides few services but charges high prices. They’ll accept business documents for you and supply a Virginia business address to you. But it costs $159 per year.

InCorp provides the bare minimum for $99 per year.  Unfortunately, their computer system is really hard to use, and their customer service doesn’t cut it. 

If you want to save money, Harbor Compliance is a better bet.

9. Swyft Filings Review

Swyft Filings offers basic services, like an address and compliance alerts. But, they charge $149 per year.

CSC Global provides all of the basic services, and the only premium service they provide is that they cover any Virginia filing fees, but they cost $299 per year.

But they charge $200 per year for minimal services.

12. Jumpstart Filings Review

Jumpstart Filings offers both registered agent and business formation services. You’ll get little more than a physical street address in the state, for $150 per year. You don’t get a discount with their formation services, either.

Why You Should Trust Me

I have spent more time interacting with and researching registered agents than most people. 

I began researching registered agents for my two businesses. Then I closed them and began looking for a new project and learned that most people don’t know as much about the registered agents as I do, and don’t have the time to do research. 

So, I started this website to give this advice to people on the internet.

Selection of the Best Registered Agent

I used this 4-stage process to whittle down a list of over 60 Virginia LLC registered agents.  

Stage 1: Reviews

I read reviews that were long enough to provide ample information about the quality of service of each company on sites like TrustPilot, Facebook, and the Better Business Bureau.

Stage 2: Website Analysis

Some of the things I looked at during this stage were the services, company history, location, ways to contact customer service, and any awards they displayed. 

Stage 3: Speaking With Real Customers

I reached out to former customers, as well as those who came to my site to shop for new agents. I asked them about the service and how satisfied they were. 

Stage 4: Speak With Their Sales Team

I collected negative feedback, comments and issues I could find and then asked their sales teams direct questions about them.

Rating Factors

Here are the rating factors I used to rank the remaining 12 companies.

Factor 1: Offerings

We looked at things like if they offer same day document scans; if they give you compliance alerts and whether they offer identity theft protection.

Factor 2: Price

Virginia registered agent prices vary WIDELY making it can be hard to determine what a good price looks like. 

Budget services for $39-$59 per year initially seem like an affordable option. The services you get are insufficient to get by on and you’ll have to pay additional fees for things like compliance alerts,and can cost more than what most premium services charge.

Because of this, I didn’t add budget services to the list. 

Factor 3: Ease Of Signup

Agents with automated, simple and quick signup processes earned higher positions on our list than those who required mountains of paperwork.

The agents whose computer systems were easy-to-use and navigate took higher positions than those whose systems would potentially cause an office-wide headache.

Your registered agent can quite literally mean the difference between avoiding legal problems and causing them, so their customer service is important.
