12 Best Louisiana Registered Agent Services (2024 Review)

12/03/2024

Choosing the right Louisiana registered agent (also known as a resident agent or statutory agent) is vitally important because a company’s registered agent can cause either business success or failure.

The right Louisiana registered agent will provide services that ensure that your LLC meets its legal obligations, remains in good standing, and keeps your personal information off the public record.

The wrong Louisiana registered agent could be careless with your personal information and your company assets, sending it into the hands of hackers and scammers. The wrong agent also won’t ensure that your LLC meets its legal obligations and does the things it needs to in order to remain in good standing, potentially leaving your company open to lawsuits.

If you can't afford to lose your entire company, your identity, and tons of money, you’ll want to find a good Louisiana registered agent service for your LLC.

I investigated over 60 different registered agent services in the state of Louisiana, rated the top 12 and then wrote detailed reviews about the best three. Here are my choices for the best registered agent in Louisiana.

1. Northwest Registered Agent — 9.13/10 (My Top Pick)

I chose Northwest Registered Agent as the best registered agent in Louisiana because they provide all of the services you need to make sure that your company meets its legal obligations, they charge a fair fee, and they provide the best customer service in the industry.

Pros

It won’t take you long to find a number of reasons to like Northwest Registered Agent

They offer all of the services that a Louisiana registered agent must provide to meet the Louisiana Secretary of State’s requirements. As your registered agent, they will become your point of contact, provide your business with a physical street address in Louisiana, be available during normal business hours to receive mail, as well as accepting service of process and legal documents on behalf of your business and providing mail forwarding.

They also provide you with a few services that feel like extras. They scan ALL your mail and legal documents (not just the legal documents) and upload them to an online portal for you to access the same day with an online account, draft and file your Articles of Organization and they issue compliance alerts or annual report reminders so you don’t forget about upcoming filing deadlines in order to keep your limited liability company (LLC) in good standing with the Louisiana Secretary of State.

It’s easy to sign up and log into their system. You can even use their online system to sign up for registered agent service for multiple states or for multiple years from the same portal. The system is also intuitive and user-friendly enough that you’ll have no problem easily navigating through it.

But the main reason that Northwest Registered Agent earned the top position on my list is their customer service.

It’s quite common these days to find that a company has outsourced their customer service to a foreign land and entrusted under-trained agents to field questions about their services. So Northwest’s US-based customer service team is a breath of fresh air in such a typically impersonal industry.

Their customer service team is made up of people who used to be business owners, entrepreneurs, accountants, and lawyers who have enough experience and knowledge of the business world to answer any question you bring to them. In fact, they’ll do just that. Not only do they answer questions about their Louisiana registered agent service, with their small business support they answer any business question you may have as well.

When you call Northwest’s customer service team and ask a question, they don’t just respond with a scripted response in a monotone. They listen patiently and then ask questions to make sure they understand your issue before offering advice or solutions. Their advice and solutions are always spot on as well, so you won’t have to worry about performing their suggested fix only to find it doesn’t work and having to call them back several times.

Once you factor in that on top of all of their quality services they only charge a fee of $125 per state per year, it’s easy to understand why I’ve chosen Northwest Registered Agent as the best registered agent in Louisiana.

Cons

There’s only one drawback to Northwest Registered Agent and interestingly it’s also their best feature: their comprehensive customer service.

When you call Northwest Registered Agent to ask a question or get some help with a technical issue, they don’t respond with solutions or advice without patiently listening. Instead they ask loads of questions to make sure they completely understand the problem. In most instances, this approach to customer service is well received and appreciated, but it can be a real pain when you’re short of time.

There’s really no way to call their customer service team, ask a one-sentence question and get a quick, one-sentence response. There were a few times that I called them up in hopes of fixing a problem quickly only to find that they asked more questions than I had time to answer. In these instances, it's simpler and faster to simply Google your question.

This is an incredibly high-quality issue and only a small knock against Northwest. It’s not likely that you’ll encounter it often.

Overall

Northwest Registered Agent provides all the services that corporations and limited liability companies need in order to remain in good standing with the Louisiana Secretary of State. They have an easy-to-use online system and they only charge $125 per state, per year for their registered agent service.

When you also consider their industry-leading customer service and business support, it’s easy to see why they’ve earned the top spot on my list.

If you want a Louisiana registered agent service that will provide you with more than just the basics, while also keeping your personal details and assets safe and providing you with the best customer service in the industry, check out Northwest Registered Agent

2. Harbor Compliance — 7.92/10 (Best Budget Registered Agent)

Harbor Compliance is a good choice if you’re more concerned about the price of your registered agent’s services than you are the quality of the services themselves.

Pros

As a full-service Louisiana registered agent, Harbor Compliance offers a lot of the same services that Northwest Registered Agent does. As your registered office, they provide your business in Louisiana with a physical street address in the state, draft and file your Articles of Organization, accept mail, documents, and service of process on your behalf, and scan your documents before uploading them to an online portal for you to access with an online account. They also issue compliance filing notifications to remind you when you need to file important forms or documents to keep your limited liability company (LLC) in good standing with the Louisiana Secretary of State.

In addition, they only charge $99 per state, per year for their Louisiana registered agent service, which is the lowest price on my list.

Cons

There’s one big drawback to Harbor Compliance’s registered agent service. While all of the services they provide are good, none of them are great

They provide your LLC with all the services it must in order to avoid legal trouble from the Louisiana Secretary of State, but it doesn’t provide any services that feel like extras, and while their customer service can adequately answer questions and walk you through the steps to solve most technical issues, their customer service team is nowhere near as patient and efficient as Northwest Registered Agent’s.

So while they provide good registered agent service, none of their services are exceptional. In fact, the only feature worth mentioning as something that stands out is their low fee.

Overall

Harbor Compliance provides all the services that a Louisiana registered agent service must provide and they do it for the low fee of $99 per state, per year, but none of their services are remarkable.

If you feel confident about trading away the extras and excellent customer service that Northwest Registered Agent provides in order to save a measly $26 per year, you can read more about Harbor Compliance here.

3. LegalZoom — 6.59/10 (Best Premium Service)

LegalZoom may be third on my list in terms of overall best registered agent in Louisiana, but it’s the best premium registered agent service in the state.

Pros

Choosing LegalZoom as the registered agent for your LLC means that you’re choosing a big name in the business industry. They’re well known throughout the business sector and that sort of reputation holds a lot of value to many companies seeking a registered agent in Louisiana.

LegalZoom provides all of the services that you need for your business. They provide your business with a physical street address in Louisiana, they accept mail and service of process from a process server during regular business hours, and provide mail forwarding. They will file deadlines in order to keep your limited liability company (LLC) in good standing with the Louisiana Secretary of State.

The main advantage of LegalZoom’s premium registered agent service is that they also offer up to $1,000,000 in identity theft protection for your LLC. This is a welcome and useful service addition because cybercrime and hackers are more prevalent than ever.

Cons

It seems that LegalZoom is using its big name in order to charge a lot more for their registered agent services than they’re actually worth. Their premium registered agent services will cost you a whopping $299 per state, per year.

One could argue that this is because they also provide identity theft protection. However, there’s a shocking $176 difference between their rate and Northwest Registered Agent’s. For less than $176 you could hire Northwest Registered Agent and purchase identity theft protection from a separate company.

Another drawback to LegalZoom’s registered agent service is that they’re a commercial registered agent. Their other business services (which consist mostly of templates for business documents) remain their focus, leaving their registered agent services a bit neglected. As a commercial registered agent that focuses far more on their other services, their customer service isn’t knowledgeable about the inner workings of their Louisiana registered agent services and their online system wasn’t prioritized, so it’s pretty clunky and hard to use.

Overall

LegalZoom has a reputable name and is well known throughout the business world, but it uses its commercial registered agent status to charge more for their services than they’re worth. However, if you’re already using LegalZoom’s other services it may make sense to sign up for their registered agent services as well, if there’s some reason that you need to consolidate your service bills so much that expense isn’t a factor you consider.

If you’re more concerned about your Louisiana registered agent’s name than about how much they charge for their services, you can learn more about LegalZoom’s Louisiana registered agent services here: LegalZoom.

4. ZenBusiness

ZenBusiness is a registered agent and LLC formation service in Louisiana that offers all the services a Louisiana registered agent must provide in order to avoid any trouble from the Secretary of State, but for some reason they charge $199 for basic services.

They provide your business with a street address in the state of Louisiana, accept mail, legal documents, and service of process on your behalf during normal business hours, and forward your mail to you. They also provide a worry-free compliance alert system, access to an Employer Identification Number for tax purposes, mandatory annual report filing, and document storage portal.

The reason for this high price is probably because they focus on their LLC formation services. This means that they can help to form your LLC and draft and file your Articles of Organization. Regardless of their reasoning for the expense, they still charge much more for many of the same types of services that Northwest Registered Agent provides.

You can learn more about ZenBusiness' services by reading my full ZenBusiness review

5. IncFile

IncFile is a statutory agent service that will provide you with little more than the bare minimum they must provide. Your LLC will get the coveted street address in the state of Louisiana that it needs, they’ll receive mail and service of process on behalf of your company during business hours, and they'll forward your mail. They will also file important deadlines in order to keep your limited liability company (LLC) in good standing with the Louisiana Secretary of State.

However, you’re not going to get much more from their services. You won’t get any extras like compliance filing notifications to let you know when you need to file your annual report. What’s more frustrating is that they charge $119 per state, per year for these dismal services, so I really can’t recommend them.

If you’d like to pay $119 per year for basic services that aren’t of the same quality as Northwest Registered Agent’s, you can read more about IncFile here.

6. Rocket Lawyer

The best way I can describe Rocket Lawyer is that it is a registered agent service in Louisiana that’s a cheap knockoff of LegalZoom that isn’t that much cheaper.

They provide basic services like providing your LLC with an address in the state of Louisiana, accepting mail and service of process during business hours and forwarding mail. However, they charge $149 per state, per year for these meager services.

To learn more about their online legal services, read my full Rocket Lawyer review.

7. SunDoc Filings

SunDoc Filings is another registered agent in Louisiana that provides inadequate services but charges exorbitant fees.

While they will provide your business in Louisiana with an agent’s name and address to use as a point of contact, accept mail and service of process on behalf of your business, and forward your mail, they don’t offer any extras like compliance filing alerts.

8. InCorp

InCorp presented me with an interesting conundrum when I reviewed it.

As your registered office, they provide your business with an address in Louisiana, accept mail and service of process on behalf of your LLC, and provide mail forwarding. They even charge the same low fee as Harbor Compliance: $99 per state, per year.

However, the reason they’ve secured this low position on my list is their nightmare of an online system. It’s slow, hard to navigate, and overly complicated.

If you’d like services that are inadequate compared with Northwest Registered Agent and a system that will frustrate the whole office, you can learn about InCorp here: InCorp.

9. Swyft Filings

Swyft Filings is another in a sea of highly priced agents with insufficient service offerings.

Once they become your point of contact and registered office they provide your business in Louisiana with an address, accept mail and service of process on your behalf, and provide mail forwarding. They also provide LLC formation services so they can help draft and file your Articles of Organization. But they charge $149 per year and their resident agent services are subpar when compared to Northwest Registered Agent’s. (You don’t even get compliance filing alerts for that price!)

If for whatever reason you'd like to consider their services, please read my full Swyft Filings review.

10. CSC Global

CSC Global is a “premium” registered agent service that provides all of the basic services that Louisiana requires from registered agents (like an address in Louisiana).

I call it a “premium” registered agent service because the only real premium service they provide is covering the state fees you incur from filing a Change of Registered Agent form and switching to their services from another agent. They charge $299 per year for their services. It doesn’t cost nearly that much to change registered agent services, so you could register for Northwest Registered Agent’s excellent services and pay the state fees yourself for less.

11. Registered Agents Inc.

Registered Agents Inc. seemed like a really exciting option to me at first. They are the only registered agent service on my list that focuses solely on registered agent services. However, they provide only the minimum services that Louisiana requires, such as accepting service of process, and they charge $200 per state, per year for those basic services.

12. Jumpstart Filings

Jumpstart Filings is a resident agent that offers services that are substandard when compared with Northwest Registered Agent’s. They charge $129 per year for little more than an address in the state of Louisiana.

Registered Agent Review Summary

I started with a list of over 60 different registered agents in the state, rated the top 12 and then wrote exhaustive reviews of the best three. The top-rated registered agent is Northwest Registered Agent

They offer all of the registered agent services that Louisiana requires and that you and your LLC need. They charge a reasonable fee of $125 per year, per state for their services, only $26 more than the lowest fee on my list.

Northwest doesn’t offer any premium services, but the services they do provide more than make up for that. It’s easy to sign up for their services, their system is easy to use, and they provide a few services that feel like “extras” (like compliance notifications and scanning all of your mail).

If you need a registered agent that provides your LLC with all the services it needs, plus a few “extras,” or you need to change registered agent services, check out Northwest Registered Agent

Best Registered Agent Review Methodology

Here is the methodology and the logic I used to determine the best registered agent.

Why You Should Trust Me

You should trust me because I probably know more about the Louisiana registered agent industry than any other sane person cares to. I’d wager that I have more experience and knowledge in the field than some of the people that work for the registered agent companies on this list.

It all started when I began searching for a Louisiana registered agent for my two businesses. I didn’t know much about registered agents, but I knew enough to know that I didn’t want any legal trouble from the Louisiana Secretary of State.

I read through mounds of promotional pamphlets and online reviews to try to distinguish between factual information and hype about these companies. I spent hours on the phone with several customer service teams, which rang up quite a phone bill.

I’ve also helped many people find the best Louisiana registered agent service for their companies.

The process of guiding some of my friends and colleagues in the business community to finding their Louisiana registered agents clued me into a very important fact. I have more knowledge about and experience with registered agents than the average person does, and I have more time to research them than most business owners do. That meant I was the man for the job.

From there I started this website and I’ve helped thousands of people find their ideal Louisiana registered agent service, and I can help you as well!

How I Selected the Best Registered Agent

This is the four-stage investigative process I used to determine the best Louisiana registered agent service. I started with a list of over 60 different registered agents and then whittled it down to 12. Here’s how:

Stage 1: Reviews

The first stage of my investigative process was to read through loads of online reviews. You’d be surprised how much information you can find simply from reading online reviews. I read through reviews on Google Business, the Better Business Bureau, TrustPilot, Facebook, and any other place where people post online reviews.

These reviews helped me to determine which companies were legitimate businesses, which were obvious scams, and which ones used deceptive pricing practices (which I’ll explain later).

Stage 2: Website Analysis

For the next stage of my investigation, I took a deep dive into each Louisiana registered agent’s website. This was a fairly simple task to complete, but it yielded a lot of information.

I combed through the company websites and took note of things like their “About” page, how many different methods they listed to contact their customer service team (phone, email, chat), their address (they had to have an office in the state of Louisiana), if they’d won and displayed any awards on their site, and finally called customer service if anything was unclear.

This stage left me with a spreadsheet with 12 rows and 24 columns that detailed each company’s service offerings.

Stage 3: Speaking with Real Customers

It’s one thing to read online reviews, but you can get more information from speaking to actual customers. A company’s website will tell you what services they offer, but the customers will tell you how well they provide the services.

For this stage of the investigation, I reached out to new customers who came to my site to find a Louisiana registered agent, as well as those whom I had previously helped. This stage provided me with a lot of very revealing information that gave me a good idea about what it’s like to deal with each of the agents on my list.

Stage 4: Speaking with Their Sales Teams

Speaking to customers and reading about an agent’s services on their website may provide some information, but in order to determine how a company treats their customers and deals with problems, you have to speak to their sales team.

So, I rounded up all of the negative feedback, reviews and issues I’d found while conducting my investigation and asked the sales teams very direct questions about them.

This told me how the company handled feedback and whether they were willing to support growth, change, and better services, or if they simply blamed the customers for their failings. Some of them said things like they’d already taken the customer feedback and used it to correct the issue so that it wasn’t a problem anymore. Others insinuated that there wasn’t a problem and I shouldn’t listen to that “crazy” customer.

Rating Factors

Once I’d completed the investigation stage, I was left with a list of 12 Louisiana registered agents for your Louisiana LLC. Here are the factors I used to rate them:

Factor 1: Offerings

This was my first rating factor because it’s arguably the most important. If an agent doesn’t offer the services you need, then none of the other factors even matter. There are a wide array of services that agents offer in Louisiana.

Some agents provide basic services, like providing your business with an address, accepting mail and service of process on behalf of your company, and providing mail forwarding.

Other companies will scan your documents and upload them to an online portal for you to access with an online account, provide compliance alerts to let you know when you need to file important paperwork and documents for your LLC, and provide LLC formation services to help you draft your LLC’s Articles of Organization.

Still others offer premium services like identity theft protection.

Knowing what services a Louisiana registered agent provides can help you determine the services you need.

Factor 2: Value

The next factor I considered was value. Are the services that the agent provides worth the fee that they’re charging? During my investigation I found that price ranges for Louisiana registered agents in the state varied wildly, making it difficult for the average person to determine what is a reasonable price for registered agent services.

Some agents charge between $39–$59 per state per year for their services, while others charge $299 or more.

I found that the agents that charge $39–$59 provide inadequate services for that price. They will provide you with little more than an address in the state. If you want something more, like compliance alerts, you’ll have to pay extra fees that can amount to an extra $120 per year on top of the $39–$59 you were already paying.

I don’t believe that these deceptive pricing practices are ethical, so I left these budget agents off my list.

Factor 3: Ease of Sign-up

There are few things more frustrating than finding a Louisiana registered agent that provides all of the services you need at a reasonable price, only to find that their sign-up process is complicated and lengthy.

I saved you the headache of finding out which registered agents have easy sign-up processes and which don’t by actually signing up for each service on my list and considering the ease of their sign-up processes.

I considered whether their sign-up processes were simple, automated, and quick, or whether they required mountains of paperwork to be completed and faxed to an inconvenient and dodgy PO Box in a foreign country along with various personal information, biometric identification, and the blood of your firstborn child only to wait weeks for the sign-up process to be completed.

Factor 4: Ease of Use

While it’s important that an agent have an easy sign-up process, it’s just as important that they have an online system that’s easy to use.

It can be extremely frustrating to use an antiquated, slow, glitchy system that frustrates the whole office. To save you some time and annoyance, I toyed around with each agent’s system to see how easy it was to use. I attempted to complete a few simple tasks and noted when I got hung up. (If I did.)

Factor 5: Customer Service

No matter how good an agent’s system is, you will eventually have a question either about their system or their services so customer service is important. It’s especially crucial to find good customer service when you have an issue with the system and are frustrated to the point of nearly smashing your keyboard through the monitor.

Good customer service can get you back to work quickly and leave you feeling positive about the contact. However, bad customer service can screw up your whole day. If you’ve ever tried to call the DMV during lunch hour on a weekday, you know what sort of service I’m referring to and how it makes you feel.

In order to properly assess the level of customer service that each agent provides, I contacted each agent’s customer service team and asked some simple questions. Then I took note of things like how long it took for them to respond to me, whether they adequately solved my problem and answered my question, how polite and courteous the team member or members were, and how many people I had to talk to in order to get a resolution.

The Best Louisiana Registered Agent Results Summary

I investigated over 60 different Louisiana registered agent services in the state, rated the top 12 and then wrote in-depth reviews about the best three.

Best Overall Registered Agent — Northwest Registered Agent (9.13/10)

Northwest Registered Agent earned the top position on my list because they provide all the services your LLC needs, they charge a reasonable fee for their services, and they have the best customer service in the industry.

They provide your company with an address in the state, accept service of process and mail on your company’s behalf, and provide mail forwarding.

They also provide some nice extras. They issue compliance filing notifications to remind you when you need to file important forms and documents (like your annual report), and scan ALL your mail and documents before uploading them to an online portal for you to access the same day with an online account. They also offer discounts for agent service in multiple states or for multiple years. They have offices in every state, so they can grow along with your business.

The main reason that they’re at the top of my list is their customer service.

Their customer service team is US-based and made up of people who were formerly business owners, entrepreneurs, accountants and lawyers. They have years of experience in the business field, so they can answer nearly any business inquiry. And they do answer any business question you ask them (not just questions about their Louisiana registered agent service) through their business support team.

They really take the time to listen patiently and understand your problem or question before answering you or trying to suggest solutions to your problem. And because of their questions and their patience, they provide efficient solutions to your problems and accurate answers to your questions so that you don’t have to call back with the same problem later.

It’s also worth noting that there are over 3,000 positive Northwest Registered Agent online reviews, so I’m not the only one who’s had a good experience with them.

If you need a registered agent that will take care of your every business need, keep your personal information safe, and charge a reasonable fee, you can sign up for Northwest Registered Agent.

Best Budget Registered Agent — Harbor Compliance (7.92/10)

Harbor Compliance is a reasonable option if you’re looking to save money and are willing to forgo Northwest Registered Agent’s excellent services and business support in order to do so.

For $99 per state, per year they provide all the basic registered agent services that your business needs, like an address in the state, accepting mail and service of process on your behalf, and mail forwarding.

Their customer service team is adequate. They can walk you through most technical issues, but they aren’t as patient as Northwest’s team and they won’t answer business-related questions, only those about their Louisiana registered agent service.

If you still aren't sure, just browse the hundreds of Harbor Compliance reviews online.

If you’re willing to settle for adequate services in order to save a measly $26 per year, click here to learn more about Harbor Compliance.

Best Premium Registered Agent — Legal Zoom (6.59/10)

The best premium Louisiana registered agent on my list is LegalZoom

They offer all the typical, basic registered agent options, such as providing an address in the state, accepting mail and service of process on your behalf, and mail forwarding. They also provide up to $1,000,000 in identity theft protection.

The identity theft protection may seem like a unique and valuable service offering, but if you get it from LegalZoom it will set you back nearly $300. They charge $299 per year, a full $176 more than Northwest Registered Agent’s services. For less than $176 you could sign up for Northwest Registered Agent’s services and purchase identity theft protection from a third party, so it’s not really worth the $299.

If you’d like to spend more money than you should simply to obtain expensive identity theft insurance, you can check out LegalZoom here

In Conclusion

Making sure that you get the right Louisiana registered agent for your business is important because the right agent can help your business meet all of its legal requirements, as well as keeping your personal information and assets safe.

I investigated a list that started out with over 60 different registered agent services, whittled it down to 12, then rated and wrote detailed reviews about the top three.

I concluded that Northwest Registered Agent is the best registered agent service in Louisiana.

They provide all the services that your business needs and the services you want like an address in the state of Louisiana, mail scanning and forwarding, online access to your mail and documents, LLC formation services, and compliance alerts.

They also have a system that’s easy to set up and to navigate, and the best customer service in the industry. And they provide this all for only $125 per state, per year.

If you need to change your registered agent, or you want the best Louisiana registered agent service in the state, head to Northwest Registered Agent.
