Louisiana LLC Search: Business Filings, Charter Number and Secure Filing
Louisiana’s registry search sits on coraweb, not on geauxBIZ, which needs an account and is for filing. Run a Louisiana business entity search below for LLCs, corporations, nonprofits, partnerships, limited liability partnerships (LLPs) and trade names by name, by 9-character charter number such as 34883900K, or by the name of a member, manager, officer or agent.

Search for Louisiana Business Filings on coraweb
The Louisiana Secretary of State (SOS) runs Search for Louisiana Business Filings, which its FAQ calls the Commercial Database: it covers every business entity on file with the office, costs nothing, requires no login, and searches by entity name, by Charter Number, Trade Registration Number, or Name Reservation Number, or by an officer’s or agent’s first and last name.

The state advises checking “words that are spelled differently but are phonetically similar (i.e. Easy, EZ, E-Zee),” and LLC, Inc. or similar endings don’t count. One results list mixes companies, trade names and Previous Name rows that point to a company’s current name; there is no status column, and “Active records are shown in Bold.” A “geauxbiz business search” leads to the filing portal, which asks for a login; searching stays on coraweb.
Nine Characters, One Letter: The Louisiana Charter Number
The charter number is “assigned to each entity upon filing,” so it comes with the filing itself and is shown on the record. “The charter number is 8 digits long and includes 1 letter of the alphabet (i.e. 35294371D). All 9 characters must be entered into the search box for a result.”
| Charter number | Record |
|---|---|
34883900K | Raising Cane’s Restaurants, L.L.C., LLC, Active, In Good Standing |
34566623K | Community Coffee Company, L.L.C., LLC, Active, In Good Standing |
23301690D | Community Coffee Company, Inc., business corporation, inactive (merged) |
04900570F | McIlhenny Company, business corporation (non-Louisiana), Active |
In one week of new filings published by the state, Louisiana LLCs ended in K, corporations in D and nonprofits in N; out-of-state LLCs and corporations ended in Q and F. The state publishes no table, so treat the letter as a hint. The search above capitalizes a lowercase letter, but a missing leading zero (4900570F) or a dash finds nothing. “The Secretary of State’s Office does not keep tax ID numbers”; the IRS issues EINs, and tracing a Louisiana company’s EIN takes other sources.
Status and Annual Report Status Are Separate Lines
A Louisiana record shows Status (Active or Inactive) and, on its own line, Annual Report Status. “Not in good standing” means an LLC “is delinquent in filing the annual report,” and such an LLC “shall be prohibited from engaging in commercial business operations with the state”; its state contracts can be declared void.

The record also lists the registered agent with an appointment date, officers or members, mergers and amendments, but not the filed documents themselves, which are bought as certified copies. A Certificate of Good Standing is ordered online from the record, and its Certificate ID can be checked on the state’s Validate a Certificate page.
Who Runs a Louisiana LLC Is on the Record
The initial report and every annual report of a Louisiana LLC list every manager’s name and address or, when the members manage it, every member’s, and the office says “the names and addresses of current officer(s), director(s), member(s) and manager(s) may be printed from the Commercial Database.” When every manager is a company, as on the 34883900K record, no individual’s name appears in its Officer(s) block.
A free weekly newsletter lists every new Louisiana entity with its charter number, agent and up to three members or managers. A Louisiana registered agent is either a state resident or an authorized company that names two people at its Louisiana address, and signs a notarized affidavit accepting the role; an LLC member who lives in the state can serve.
Louisiana Annual Report Form: No Statewide Date, Due on the Anniversary
Each LLC files by the anniversary of its organization, and each corporation by the anniversary of its incorporation, “even if there are no changes.” Up to four weeks before the due date, the record on coraweb shows a “Print Annual Report Form for Filing” bar; filing online goes through geauxBIZ. Under Act 921, the report costs $35 from October 1, 2026.
A Louisiana LLC that skips three years in a row is revoked; the notice goes to its registered agent at least 30 days ahead, and the report has to reach the office within 30 days of it (60 days for a foreign LLC or corporation). It can reinstate within three years, and its name stays off-limits to others for those three years. More on filing in the Louisiana LLC annual report guide.
Trade Names at the State, DBAs at the Parish
Registering a trade name at the Secretary of State ($95 from October 1, 2026) covers ten years, and it appears in the coraweb results, while “DBA’s are not filed with this office. They are filed at the parish level by the local Clerk of Court’s office,” so there is no statewide DBA search.
An assumed-name certificate is notarized and filed with the clerk of court of each parish where the business operates (in New Orleans, the register of conveyances). Licenses depend on the activity and location: geauxBIZ’s Business License Checklist builds the list from a NAICS code, parish and city, and contractor licenses are searched at the State Licensing Board for Contractors. Certified UCC (Uniform Commercial Code) searches go through a parish clerk of court, not coraweb.
Secure Business Filings and the Scam Letters
Secure Business Filings, an optional geauxBIZ service, emails the company whenever an amendment is submitted on it through geauxBIZ; the change goes through only if the company approves it with its PIN “within five days.” In geauxBIZ it is listed under Maintain as Securing Business Filings; enrollment takes a notarized authorization signed by an officer, director, member, manager or partner of record. Every record also offers Subscribe to Electronic Notification, a free alert on new filings.
On July 24, 2025, the Secretary of State warned about letters from “Business Filing powered by Firstep” threatening dissolution unless the annual report was filed through them: “All official correspondence related to business filings will come through the geauxBIZ portal or on Secretary of State letterhead.” In March 2026 it added that the office “does not send unsolicited text messages or emails threatening prosecution or asking for payment.”
Checked by Sound: Louisiana LLC Name Search and 120-Day Reservations
“In addition to checking names by various spellings (Cajun vs. Kajun), names are checked phonetically (excellent vs. x e lent),” and registered trade names count against a new LLC name. Search the name without its ending; the office calls this a preliminary search and runs a fuller check when the articles are filed. A reservation costs $25, lasts 120 days and is not renewable.
Every Louisiana LLC name carries limited liability company, L.L.C. or L.C., and can’t include “doing business as” or “d/b/a.” Louisiana LLC articles of organization (see how to start a Louisiana LLC) must be acknowledged by a signer or made by authentic act; an LLC name check beyond the state covers trademarks and domain names too.
